Halloween History
The origin of Halloween date back to Samhain, an ancient Celtic festival celebrated on the night of October 31.
Living some 2000 years ago, in lands that are now Ireland, the United Kingdom and northern France, the Celts celebrated new year on November 1st.
This being a time of year often associated with human death, the end of summer and the start of the cold, dark winter, the Celts believing that the night before the new year, the boundaries overlapped between the worlds of the living and the dead, allowing the ghosts of the dead to return to earth, causing havoc such as sickness or damaged crops.
Now, Halloween is a holiday celebrated on the night of October 31, full of traditional activities include trick or treating, bonfires, costume parties, visiting "haunted houses" and carving jack-o-lanterns or pumpkins.
